Meeting My Midwife in Hawaii and Discussing Dolphin Birth

Today Kaden and I headed to Kona where we met with April (midwife).  Both of the other mommies who came to Hawaii to be with the dolphins are using her for their birth.  It was really a great experience.  We talked about visualizing my birth and how to create the best apparatus to assist with a dolphin birth.  A dolphin birth has not happened in Hawaii in decades so the logistics on how it is really going to happen need to be ironed out…

There are so many logistics that are out of my hands, like are the dolphins going to be where I am birthing, when is the baby going to come (middle of night), how am i going to be feeling, what is the water temperature, clarity, and roughness…?

Those are just some of the big ones!  But the good news is I have a beautiful team working with me, a team who has been trying to bring dolphin birth back for decades.  The Sirius Institute.

Back to April, we had a great talk and prenatal appointment.  What I really love is she doesn’t use a doppler (only if the mommy wants to hear the heartbeat for a few seconds or during birth when the baby is going through the pelvis and it ishard to get) she uses a really cool fetoscope.  She also let me listen which was really fun.  And the best part is the baby’s head is down, which it wasn’t just a week ago.  I think all the swimming in the ocean encouraged the baby to flip:)

    Hi Kim,

I am wondering if you have connected (since this writing) with any dolphin-assisted midwifery programs. Any info or resources would be greatly appreciated!

    Blessings and warm regards,
    Le’a Green

      hi le’a
i have searched and searched and nothing has come up. i got my initial info about dolphin birth at siruis institute
when i got to hawaii i thought birthing with the dolphins was common but i soon learned it has not been done for decades (1937). This was really an experiment, to see if the dolphins do attend birth, and what role they would play!

I have known about this for years, unfortunately not decades…I know it is real…I feel it deep within my being and I know it is for my child…Please just tell me where to start! I am honestly feeling like their experiment was to verify the dolphins would attend…and they are starting from scratch …again…1937 interesting year…5 years after the Stock Market Crash…and our entire country went bankrupt! I will gladly, happily, and willingly volunteer so that Mothers in the future will have a model to base their decision making on! I hope you followed through with your birth…if not, it just wasn’t the right time…and if you get the chance again…I say do it!

    Hi,

Have been trying to watch your video but can’t find it…

Really interested in knowing more about it. I am training to be a midwife and this is just so different to the norm, I want to know all about it!

We watched a film (in French) which showed babies being born in the tank with dolphins.I couldn’t believe it. Is Hawaii the only place you know that does it?

      Hi amy
we have not posted the movie yet! :( Ill let you know when we do. The experience was amazing. I saw the french movie too. I felt more comfortable swimming and laboring with wild dolphins. they were able to join if they desired:) in hawaii there are many resting areas for wild spinner dolphins and they decide if they want to visit with you or not:)
